I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy with both an HNC and HND in counselling. I am registered with the UKRCP and a Member of the Counselling for Children and Young People (CCYP). I am committed to Continuing Professional Development through ongoing training and research. Currently I provide all the therapeutic work for Counselling4All and am assisted by trainee workers.
All of my work is effectively within the framework of the moral and ethical guidelines of these organisations together with codes of conducts, ensuring best client care at all times.
My career in helping others began with voluntarily working for a local children's charity, Children North East, as a Family Link Volunteer providing emotional and practical support to families and their children. From this, it became clear to me that my interest was deepening and I felt I wanted more from my work in a therapeutic way.
From there I began to study counselling and after graduating from Tyne Metropolitan College I was able to assist people in soothing emotional distress and facilitate a further personal understanding of themselves. By my use of skilled active listening whilst offering empathy in an accepting environment the client is then more able to move towards awareness and choice that they may not have previously considered, thus improving the self and emotional well being.
My practice includes NHS and charitable organisations, Employers Assisted Programme work, GP referrals, Clinical Supervision for both Qualified and Trainee Counsellors, School Counselling and the running of a busy private practice in North Tyneside.
Adult work began within a charitable organisation seeing both men and women for a wide range of presenting problems, leading to further training and work with children, adolescents, young adults, and ultimately whole family units. Here my work was effective in improving their communication between parties and reducing dysfunctional patterns of behaviour.
Training with the Northern Guild for Psychological Solutions has now enabled me to incorporate sound Clinical Supervision into my practice.
I consider myself to be a highly ethical and moral practitioner , ensuring that my practice meets the necessary requirements of the BACP frameworks, a copy of this document can be obtained by visiting www.bacp.co.uk.
